Например, в конце финансового года банки стремятся взыскать выданные ими краткосрочные ссуды и задержать свои платежи для того, чтобы показать в отчетности высокие остатки наличности. Кроме того, приукрашивание может принимать форму уменьшения стоимости гудвилл (т.к. гудвил не подлежит исключению из налогообложения и, согласно правилам Банка международных расчетов, не считается рискованным банковским капиталом), а также учета стоимости торговых марок и исключительных статей/выплат. В настоящее время Бюро по стандартизации отчетности (Accounting Standards Board) допускает подобную практику.
